My joy for riding started at a very young age… as soon as I could hold up and twist the throttle of a Sears mini-bike. I was fortunate enough to grow up a few houses from a Kawaski & Yamaha dealership. The shop owner was a friend of my father’s and he figured since I spent so much time there he might as well hire me. I’d do anything to be around bikes as a kid… sweep floors, clean windows, polish new bikes on showroom floor, and teach beginners how to ride. Eventually I worked as a setup mechanic putting together dozens of new bikes straight out of the crate. The best part was I was the first one to ride them all… from trail bikes to three-wheelers to full-liter sport and touring bikes. When I turned sixteen and got my street license, I bought my first road bike… a Kawaski GPz 550 which I still have and ride today. It was a new model in ‘82 and mine began its life as a shop demo bike. I kept a close eye on it and made a deal with my boss to buy it the following Spring. Over the years I’ve owned many bikes, mostly dirt and trail models that I rode for fun and occasionally raced and others for pleasure on and off-road. I worked as a salesman for a couple of years at another Kawasaki dealership in Buffalo while I attended college. I put a lot of miles on my GPz around the Buffalo area! After school the GPz and I moved to Syracuse and I spent several years not riding at all. I met my wife Yvonne and we settled down and had a son Philip. After a few years though I got the itch to ride again and bought a BMW R1200RT. This was a big change from the in-line four cylinder Japanese bikes I was used to but I immediately enjoyed the big boxer twin. I’ve ridden the RT all over the Northeast and once down through North Carolina and Tennessee. I joined the local Long Level Beemers club and made many new friends. I also joined the BMW MOA and RA and volunteered to be a regional coordinator for the MOA. For me its all about the joy of riding and the friends you make along the way.

My first Motorcycle was a 1971 Yamaha DT 250 that I got for Christmas when I was 14. My father being who he is gave it to me in boxes with a set of metric tools and a Haines manual! 3 months later I was proudly riding the motorcycle I put together from a box of parts. That one motorcycle took me through college. The motorcycle I really wanted was the Black 1973 R100/5 with side cases and Windjammer fairing that used to be ridden by a local guy with a handlebar mustache! I was 11 years old and I would see him riding that beast down the road. Listening to that distinct boxer twin as he lopped passed me on the sidewalk. That’s when the BMW bug hit me. It was not until 2009 when I finally purchased my first BMW. An 800GS, I then went on to a 1200 GS, and two 1250GSA’s. Recently I purchased a 1975 R75/6 to add to my Husaburgh 390 and R1250GSA. There is simply nothing like riding the twin boxer down the road or your favorite trail. Ride On!

I have been involved with riding two wheels most of my life, from bicycles to motorcycles. I bicycle toured, raced, and supported the bicycle habit as a bicycle mechanic. My first motorcycle was a ‘71 Honda CT70, this allowed me to explore the many miles of dirt trails that were around our house. My first street motorcycle was a ‘78 Yamaha XS 750 Special, this allowed me to start taking longer day trips than the bicycle afforded me. When children came along, the 750 went away. My first real exposure to BMWs came when I was working as a bicycle mechanic. The owner of the shop was storing an Airhead in the shop. I admired that bike and it planted the seed for one day that I would also own a BMW. Eventually it came time to start back into riding motorcycles, in the fall of 2008 I purchased a ‘93 K1100LT. Next Spring, I went two-up to Prince Edward Island, this being my first multi day trip. That opened up many other trips, going south along the Blue Ridge Parkway, North above the Great Lakes to Minnesota, West to Salt Lake City. I have kept with BMWs, and currently have a ‘07 K1200LT, ‘11 R1200GS, and a ‘22 R1250GSA in the garage. I feel that I am an average BMW rider and in 2015, BMW MOA awarded me the average male rider award. This is a MOA yearly mileage contest award. How I became involved with Long Level Beemers (LLB) was reading an article in BMW Owner News (March 2014), highlighting Wayne (Doc) Edkin, former LLB president, becoming a MOA Ambassador and describing founding LLB. After reading that article and realizing how local it was, I joined in 2014. What is enjoyable with this group are the fellow members and the many activities to be involved with. What I enjoy about motorcycles is the freedom of being out on the road, attending rallies, and meeting new friends along the way.

I am an avid Pillion Photographer.I began my journey riding pillion and photo journalling my trips with Ken in 2016 on the back of a 2011 black on black 1200 GS. Since then I have logged many trips on road and off road documenting the places we have gone on our 2011GS, 2019 and 2023GSA’s. From Maine to Florida, Oregon and places in between, my photos and videos bring those who could not make it a view as if they were there. There is nothing like being in the open able to take photographs and video in the 360 degree view you get on a motorcycle. It allows me to take many unique prospectives that you just don’t get from a car! I am looking forward to chronicling the next ride to the Annual MOA Rally!
